Really convenient location, it's about 5-7 minutes away from Kyoto Station where all the major bus lines pick up. There's also an underground passageway to the Station which is very convenient on rainy days. There's a supermarket across the street where you can pick up water and snacks.

Solo traveler delight
Had the most comfy bunk in a well-kept space. The kitchen was perfect for whipping up a late-night snack after long days of exploring, and the common area gave me a chance to meet some cool fellow travelers.
It wasn't exactly a bargain, but pretty much what you'd expect for the quality.

It is literally a stone's throw away from the railway station and the kitchen was nicely sized.
Compared to the J-Hoppers in Hiroshima, which is part of the same chain, this hostel felt a little less friendly and active.

The bunk beds here come equipped with privacy curtains and personal power outlets, which provides a decent sense of seclusion in a mixed dorm setting. The location shines, greatly improving your ability to explore the city effortlessly.
The cleanliness leaves much to be desired-dust collecting under the bunk beds and an unpleasant odor wafting through the rooms can really throw off your experience. Limited ventilation hampers air quality, with the air conditioning further exacerbating the musty scent rather than alleviating it. The provided linens seem overdue for a wash, with stains suggesting poor maintenance. The lack of towels and basic amenities in the bathroom could be inconvenient for some, especially after a long day of exploring.

The staffs were extremely friendly and were always ready to recommend good food places (it is in Kyoto where I had the best unagi in my life!) and they were also very knowledgeable about the tourist destinations (clearly!) that I wanted to visit. In terms of shower facilities, for someone like myself who is extremely particular, the bathrooms were immaculate. I was so pleased I wished I had a longer stay in Kyoto. As a solo traveller, lugging the world with me, location was clearly a concern and knowing it was a 15 mins walk (including getting lost of course) from the main JR station was a comfort. After roaming 2 days in Kyoto, the walks to the hostel obviously got shorter! It helps that the hostel is really near big malls and yodobashi with endless food and shopping options with such a great price - I don't think I can complain anymore about what I am paying for.
